One year review: Embracing new ways to evaluate the risks of yearling endoscopy
Chloe completed a four-year Bachelor of Agricultural Science from Charles Sturt University in 2025 and launched Central Stock Health in her final semester. The business works alongside Victorian sheep producers to take the guesswork out of worm control. Chloe provides on-farm worm egg counts and translates parasitology into plain language, helping producers make better decisions on farm and strengthen worm control for the long term.
Having grown up on a mixed cropping and sheep operation in Northwest Victoria, the sheep industry was a natural progression for Chloe. But her interest in the science behind sheep grew during her studies, and has been spurred on by her much anticipated Horizon scholarship.
“I first saw the AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship advertised in year 10 and I remember being so upset I couldn’t apply for it yet because I thought it looked amazing,” Chloe recalled.

I thought ‘one year that’s going to be me’ and I’m so lucky that it has been. |
Delivered in partnership with industry sponsors, the AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship supports full-time university students in the final two years of their degree with a $5,000 annual bursary, hands-on industry placements, professional development workshops and valuable networking opportunities.
“I thought that I knew agriculture,” Chloe said,

but all the different industries I’ve been exposed to during the program, and all the people I’ve met with all these different backgrounds, just shows how many avenues there really are in ag and the endless opportunities out there. |
Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) sponsored Chloe and has been an industry investor of the Agrifutures Horizon Scholarship for 12 years. To date, MLA has supported 18 students with an interest in the Australian Red Meat industry.
“For MLA, the Horizon Scholarship is about backing bright agricultural and STEM students early and encouraging them to build careers in the Australian red meat industry. By supporting their learning, research and professional development, the program helps grow the next generation of people needed to take on the industry’s biggest challenges and turn good ideas into practical outcomes,” Joshua Whelan, Program Manager Innovation Capability at MLA, said.
“ |
Skilled and capable human resources are critical to the red meat industry delivering on the ambitious targets set out in its strategic plans and MLA place a great emphasis on building the capacity of our future leaders. Chloe’s area of interest and attitude fit the bill perfectly |
Chloe is set to complete her industry placement in 2026. She’s looking to sharpen her skills in sheep nutrition and system optimisation, with a strong focus on tackling drench resistance – and she’s got full industry support behind her.
“The AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship has encouraged me to look beyond the standard avenues that I thought that I would fall into and really push myself,” Chloe said. “It’s also helped me say what I mean. Having confidence in myself and asking for what I need has been one of the most valuable skills I’ve picked up from the program.”
AgriFutures Australia is committed to supporting the next generation of leaders that will drive the future prosperity of Australian rural industries and communities. The AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship is awarded to students studying an agriculture-related undergraduate degree or a Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths/Finance (STEM) degree with relevant majors which align to agriculture.
Applications for the 2026 AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship are now open and close on Monday 26 January 2026.
