Jonathan D’Arcy Appointed Chair of AgriFutures Thoroughbred Horses Program Advisory Panel
Ms Teale was recognised for her commitment to opening up STEM opportunities for women in regional Western Australia, using the rapidly growing space sector as a platform to inspire, connect and create career pathways.
Through StarSite Australia, Ms Teale is helping position Western Australia as part of the global space industry, while ensuring regional communities and women can access the opportunities it brings.
The company’s flagship project, a 20-metre telemetry, tracking and command antenna under construction in Mullewa in partnership with Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT), will support NASA’s Artemis program and future lunar and Mars missions.
Ms Teale said the project is about more than infrastructure.
“It’s about showing regional women and young people that there is a place from them in industries like space and advanced technology,” Ms Teale said.
“We want to make sure these opportunities aren’t just seen from afar, but are accessible to the communities they’re being built in.”
Alongside the project, Ms Teale has actively worked to raise awareness and encourage greater participation by women in industries traditionally seen as out of reach.
Ms Teale accepted the award today at a ceremony presented by the Minister for Agriculture and Food and RWA Alumni the Hon. Jackie Jarvis MLC.
The AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award, supported by platinum sponsor Westpac, is Australia’s leading award recognising the innovation, leadership and impact of women across rural industries and communities.
As the Western Australian winner, Ms Teale will receive a $15,000 Westpac grant, to further her work expanding STEM engagement and satellite communications capability in rural communities. She will also undertake a professional development course of her choice.
Later this year, she will represent the state at the 2026 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award Gala Dinner and National Announcement in Canberra on Tuesday 8 September 2026. The National Winner will receive an additional $20,000 Westpac grant and the National Runner-Up an additional $15,000.
AgriFutures Australia, Managing Director, Brianna Casey AM said the Rural Women’s Award highlights women creating meaningful change, driving innovation and opportunity across rural Australia.
“The Award recognises leadership that opens doors for others and celebrates new ideas that strengthen regional communities,” Ms Casey said.
“Angela’s work is a powerful example of how rural communities can not only participate in global industries, but shape who gets to be part of them.”
Western Australia’s Regional General Manager, Regional & Agribusiness for Westpac, Daniel Muggeridge, said the Awards recognise individuals creating lasting impact across rural and regional communities.
“When you invest in people who care about their communities, everyone benefits,” Mr Muggeridge said.
“The Rural Women’s Award shines a light on those creating real change, giving them the opportunity to make a real difference for Australians.
