I grew up on a small farm just outside Mount Gambier in the lower Southeast of South Australia. While I have always loved raising cattle, I didn’t become interested in studying agriculture until I completed a research project on cattle feed supplements and methane emissions in year 12. I am now in my second year of a Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences at The University of Adelaide.
I am passionate about combining research and science with agriculture to make Australia a global leader in high quality produce while remaining sustainable and profitable. I have a growing interest in plant genetics and its impact on yields and plant strength. When I finish my degree, I would like to work in plant research as I love the combination of field trials and lab work and working with a broad range of people.
I am excited at the opportunities for industry experience that being awarded a Horizon Scholarship will give me. I am most looking forward to meeting the other recipients at the workshops and hearing their stories and experiences.
Gaining experience and accessing expert knowledge and skills in the field of Export Fodder is an amazing opportunity for me. I think there is so much for me to learn and such a positive future for Australia in this area of agriculture globally. This will allow me to make connections that I would otherwise not have the opportunity to discover.
