The aim of this project is to address practical application of market based instruments by building the capacity of regional communities in Australia to initiate markets for ecosystem services. In recent times, use of market-based instruments to facilitate enhanced protection or production of ecosystem services has achieved a high public profile through the development of water markets and the initiation of the National Market Based Instruments Pilots Program among others. However, much work remains to apply these tools in practice.
