This research was commissioned following industry concerns and feedback from markets that there is an opportunity to enhance the welfare of buffalo during the slaughter process. Previous studies have reported that buffalo are notoriously difficult to stun. This report covers a series of activities aimed at developing a suitable method of humanely stunning smaller buffalo prior to slaughter for halal meat production in overseas markets.
