ABARE–BRS has released statistics and reports on the productivity performance of the broadacre agriculture sector (covering the wheat and other crops industry, mixed cropping-livestock industry, and specialist livestock industries) and the dairy industry since the early 1990s. This report provides a non-technical guide to the concepts, theories and empirical methods underlying the ABARE–BRS productivity estimates. The main objective is to assist non-technical readers of the ABARE–BRS productivity analyses to interpret productivity estimates and trends, and to identify and understand the mechanisms of agricultural productivity growth.
