Summary
To conduct a literature review on current methods of disposal of hatchery wastes in Australia and around the globe. Conduct a survey with major hatcheries around Australia to understand how hatchery waste is managed, characterise the wastes, identify potential difficulties faced and to understand willingness of hatcheries to change to alternative waste management techniques.Describe engineering solutions suitable for dewatering and stabilisation of hatchery wastes, and for further conversion of these intermediates to final products of value in the market.Estimate capital and operation costs for a hatchery waste processing facility and estimate the value of final product.Identify potential end users and suitable markets for the final products developed as a route to facilitate sustainability in the waste management. The review will also identify outstanding waste management issues or problems and recommend research strategies to resolve them.
