Intergrain Pty Ltd

  • Project code: PRJ-012976

  • Project stage: Current

  • Project start date: Monday, March 22, 2021

  • Project completion date: Saturday, January 3, 2026

  • National Priority: FCR-Production of high-quality export-grade fodder

Summary

This project will enable the transition of oat
breeding from a public model to a commercial platform. The program will develop
varieties that combine high yields (dry matter production), improved hay
quality and robust agronomics.
InterGrain will work with industry stakeholders
to refine the breeding targets to ensure that the varieties meet market needs.

The application of a commercial approach to breeding including the introduction
of new technologies (including speed breeding, genomic selection and high throughput
phenotyping) and increased scale will lead to a reduction in the variety
development timeframe and significant improvement in genetic gain. Broadscale
testing across Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales
will enable the development of broadly adapted varieties.
InterGrain will
directly commercialise the varieties, including market development activities,
marketing and end point royalty management.
