Rockhampton State High School

  • Project code: PRO-016121

  • Project stage: Closed

  • Project start date: Saturday, May 14, 2022

  • Project completion date: Wednesday, June 14, 2023

  • National Priority: AFI - AgriFood Innovation

Summary

This project will enable student to develop relevant skills in technology, particularly in agriculture sciences. As the agricultural industry moves on to become more data driven, schools are being left behind using old technologies and sourcing data that is rudimentary or irrelevant to the student (e.g. from a textbook). Students will learn data driven science in agriculture which will lead to stronger pathways into an industry which is struggling to attract new members. Students will focus their studies on strengthening their critical thinking and problem-solving skills and make decisions using data they have collected with technology which is relevant and used in industry. Students will work towards establishing solutions using coding of microprocessors, computing and electronics which is relevant to most industries today. Students will be able to access expertise through already established links with the local university and work towards creating pathways to tertiary education in agriculture or supported agriculture industries (such as engineering or engineering technology degrees). Furthermore, students (or family) who are already working in the agriculture industry will be able to share their experiences and create further opportunities of industry/community links.
