Scoping a shared feed ingredient database

Summary

The project aims to enhance the understanding and management of feed commodity emissions. The objectives include:
• Identifying gaps in publicly available emission factor datasets
• Developing a shared feed ingredient database focusing on GHG emissions
• Demonstrating variations in emissions and water impacts through case studies that help the industry to select the right factors and understand the limitations and estimating costs for a second iteration of the database.

The research method involves four stages:
1. Cross-industry collaboration: Forming an industry working group, conducting dual-screening processes, and identifying future capability needs for the database.
2. First-iteration of the database: Building and beta-testing the database and making it publicly available.
3. Development of case studies and explanatory report to help explain key decisions with scope 3 factor selection.
(b) Scoping for the second iteration: Reviewing outcomes from the development of the first iteration and assessing requirements and preferred capability of the second iteration, including associated cost implications.
The project will provide valuable insights into feed ingredient impacts, support industry reporting needs, and facilitate ongoing building of knowledge and insights into environmental impacts.
