Testing and understanding herbicide resistance in weeds of importance in pasture seed production

The University of Adelaide

  • Project code: PRO-016006

  • Project stage: Current

  • Project start date: Thursday, February 2, 2023

  • Project completion date: Thursday, December 21, 2023

  • National Priority: PSE-Sustainable certified temperate pasture seed production

Summary

This project will test samples of key weeds in clover pasture seed production for emerging herbicide resistance issues. Seed samples will be collected from clover pasture seed fields identified by growers or consultants. Samples will be grown and treated with the field rate of herbicides. Samples with more than 20% survival will be classified as resistant to the herbicide. The results will be delivered to growers, consultants and other interested parties in the clover seed industries through workshops to facilitate discussion of appropriate strategies for managing these weed species into the future. This information will enable growers to timely change strategies and reduce the impact of these weeds.
