The National Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos and Wallabies for Commercial Purposes (the Code) was released on Wednesday, 18 November 2020 following a thorough and independent review to incorporate new animal welfare research, changes to harvesting strategies and public perception of the industry.
As part of the 2020 update, three Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were added to the end of The Code to provide harvesters with simple step-by-step guides.
In consultation with harvesters, additional formats of the SOPs were requested that are easier and quicker to digest. In response, AgriFutures Australia has developed:
- Three audio guides that runs through each SOP in detail, explains the changes to the new Code, provides easy ways to remember certain steps and answers outstanding questions.
- Three picture guides that quickly and simply illustrate the steps in each SOP and that can easily be held in the hand, taken in the car or displayed.
