Inspiring women who want to shape, innovate and make a difference to rural and regional Australia are encouraged to apply for the 2020 AgriFutures™ Rural Women’s Award before applications close on Thursday, 31 October.

Applications for the 2020 AgriFutures™ Rural Women’s Award are now open and close on Thursday, 31 October at 11.00pm AEDT. The AgriFutures™ Rural Women’s Award is Australia’s leading award acknowledging and supporting the essential role women play in rural industries, businesses and communities.

The AgriFutures™ Rural Women’s Award has seen over 300 exceptional women from rural communities and industries share their challenges and solutions to many rural issues, and has also provided a platform to inspire and support Australian women to use and develop their skills to benefit their industries and communities.

The 2019 National Winner, Jo Palmer, founded Pointer Remote Roles in 2017 and is passionate about connecting talented professionals living in rural, regional and remote Australia with businesses all over the country.

“The Rural Women’s Award has been the most incredible platform to showcase my project to not only my state but to the country. The doors that the award has already opened for my business has been mind-blowing.

If you are doing something that supports rural Australia, I could not recommend applying for the award more and I urge you to throw your hat in the ring,” said Ms Palmer.

The AgriFutures™ Rural Women’s Award encourages innovation, problem solving, and change-making, looking for projects and initiatives that offer solutions to rural industries and the communities they support. Projects or initiatives can be commercially focused, providing they align with AgriFutures Australia’s strategic priorities of innovation, creativity, community sustainability, education, productivity, agribusiness, regional development and technology.

Location is no barrier – applicants can live in rural and regional Australia, or in the city – their applications will be measured on the impact and benefits to rural and regional Australia. Additionally, the Award criteria outlines that applicants are not required to have a specific project to be considered eligible, applications can be submitted based on an idea, an identified problem or opportunity.

“The AgriFutures™ Rural Women’s Award is an extremely important award as it celebrates the role that women play in rural industries and communities, and encourages the next generation of leaders forward.

We all need to encourage the female leaders in our communities to apply for an award like the AgriFutures™ Rural Women’s Award. If you know someone who is positively contributing to rural industries and communities, give them a nudge to apply. Over the years, we have had so much feedback that it is often the tap on the shoulder from someone else that encourages applicants to apply,” said John Harvey, Managing Director, AgriFutures Australia.

Each state and territory winner receives a $10,000 Westpac bursary, to bring their idea or project to life, access to professional development opportunities and national Alumni networks.

Applications for the AgriFutures™ Rural Women’s Award are open now and close on Thursday, 31 October 2019 at 11pm AEDT. Northern Territory applications close on Sunday, 26 January 2020 at 11.00pm AEDT.
