AgriFutures Australia is committed to supporting the next generation of leaders that will drive the future prosperity of Australian rural industries and communities. The AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship is awarded to students studying an agriculture-related undergraduate degree or a Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths/Finance (STEM) degree with relevant majors which align to agriculture.
About the program
In partnership with industry sponsors, the AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship is an initiative supporting students enrolled in full time study at an Australian university by providing:
- A bursary of $5000 per year for the final two years of your degree
- Professional development workshops
- Annual industry work placements aligned with the scholar’s areas of interest and their sponsor’s industry
- Opportunities to network and gain knowledge at a range of industry events.

Applications for the 2026 Horizon Scholarship Program OPENING SOON!
Applications will open on Monday, 24 November 2025 and close on Monday, 26 January 2026. You will be required to submit an online application via our K2 platform. A user guide will be available to you to guide you through the application platform and process step by step.

FAQ's
Am I eligible to apply?
To be eligible for the Horizon Scholarship, students must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident enrolled full-time and entering into their last two years of an agriculture-related undergraduate degree at an Australian university.
Students must not have had more than a two-year gap between completion of their schooling and commencement of full-time study.
Eligible areas of study may include, but are not limited to:
- Agricultural Science
- Rural Science
- Livestock/Animal Science
- Veterinary Science
- Agribusiness
- Plant Science
- Agricultural Economics
- Resource Management
- Sustainability
- Food Security
- Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) with major studies and subject selections relevant to, and aligned with, agriculture
Recipients will be required to attend the workshop (held in July 2026) and must complete a minimum if four weeks of work placement over the two-year duration of the scholarship. Costs associated with these activities are covered by the program.
Prior experience in agriculture or related industries is not a requirement for someone to apply for the scholarship.

How do I apply?
Applications are completed and submitted through K2, an online application portal.
In addition to the application questions, applicants must also provide a reference letter and a copy of their academic transcript. These can be attached to the application form and submitted online.
Applications close on Monday, 26 January 2026 at 5pm AEDT sharp. Applications will not be accepted via K2 after this point. Please allow sufficient time to complete your application.
If for some reason you are not able to meet the deadline, you will need to advise the AgriFutures Australia contact below of your circumstances, and they can advise you of your options.

What do I do if I have questions about eligibility or other features of the program?
AgriFutures is hosting two Q&A sessions – one in December 2025 and one in January 2026. These free sessions are intended to provide clarity around eligibility criteria, as well as answer any questions you may have in relation to the Horizon Scholarship. If you are considering applying, we encourage you to attend one of the sessions. These will become available to register for 5 days prior to applications opening for 2026.
