About the program
The AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship is awarded to students studying an agriculture-related undergraduate degree or a Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths/Finance (STEM) degree with relevant majors which align to agriculture.
In partnership with industry sponsors, the AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship is an initiative supporting students enrolled in full time study at an Australian university by providing:
- A bursary of $5000 per year for the final two years of your degree
- Professional development workshops
- Annual industry work placements aligned with the scholar’s areas of interest and their sponsor’s industry
- Opportunities to network and gain knowledge at a range of industry events.

How to apply
Applications are accepted via the K2 platform. Applications will be accepted between Monday, 24 November 2025 and Monday, 26 January 2026. We recommend familiarising yourself with the Terms and Conditions prior to submitting your application.
- Click here to launch the K2 application portal. If you have an account, you will see green text saying, ‘email exists’ and can enter your contact details then click next to start your application.
- If you don’t have an account, you will see ’email does not exist’ and will subsequently be able to send yourself a one-time pin number via email. Please check your junk/spam folder if you have not received the email with the code. Enter the pin number, create your password and then complete your contact information. Once completed, click next to start your application.
- Enter your email address and log in.
- Complete and submit your application, or save a draft application and return later. To save a draft, please click on ‘save draft’ at the bottom of the page. This will send a link to your email address, so you can log in and continue the application process when ready.

Late applications
Applications for the 2026 Horizon Scholarship close at 5:00pm AEDT sharp on Monday 26 January 2025. We highly recommend getting your application in at least 24 hours prior to the closing date/time in case of any complications with the submission process – submissions will not be accepted via K2 after this deadline.
If you anticipate any difficulty in meeting the deadline, you must notify AgriFutures Australia as soon as possible. The Capacity Building team will advise you on available options based on your circumstances.
FAQ's
What are the essential eligibility requirements?
To be eligible to apply for the Horizon Scholarship:
- You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- You must not have had more than a two-year gap between completion of your schooling and commencement of full-time study
- You must be enrolled full-time at an Australian university
- You must be entering into the last two years of an undergraduate degree with major studies and subject selections relevant to/aligned with agriculture.
Successful scholarship recipients must:
- Submit academic progress reports and actively participate in communication with sponsors and AgriFutures Australia
- Attend the annual Horizon Scholar Workshop (held in July 2026)
- Complete a minimum of four weeks of work placement over the two-year duration of the scholarship. Costs associated with these activities are covered by the program.
Prior experience in agriculture or related industries is not a requirement for someone to apply for the scholarship.
Is previous work and/or agriculture experience required?
No — prior agriculture/industry experience is not required to apply for the Horizon Scholarship.
Selection is based on academic record, demonstrated commitment to a career that will benefit rural and regional industries and communities, and leadership potential.
Can I apply for a Horizon Scholarship if I’m not studying agriculture?
Yes — as long as your major and subjects are relevant/ aligned with agriculture.
Eligible areas of study may include, but are not limited to:
- Agricultural Science
- Rural Science
- Livestock/Animal Science
- Veterinary Science
- Agribusiness
- Plant Science
- Agricultural Economics
- Environmental Sciences
- Resource Management
- Sustainability
- Food Security
- Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) with major studies and subject selections relevant to, and aligned with, agriculture.
How do I apply?
Applications are completed and submitted through K2, an online application portal.
In addition to the application questions, applicants must also provide a reference letter and a copy of their academic transcript. These can be attached to the application form and submitted online.

The program is designed to help recipients develop career readiness and create industry networks prior to graduation – 93% of Horizon Scholars* secured employment in rural industries or related sectors within six months of graduating.*
