DownloadYou know you pay a tea tree oil levy, but did you know the AgriFutures Tea Tree Oil Program is responsible for managing and investing that levy in research, development and extension projects?
Through investment in targeted and high-impact projects, the Program supports the development of a prosperous Australian tea tree oil industry with sustainable pricing and production in a long-term balance with supply. Other priorities include defensibility against foreign and adulterated products, long-term sustainability of production, and identifying and managing regulatory risks.
The RD&E investment is guided by an RD&E Plan. Developed in consultation with industry, the AgriFutures Tea Tree Oil Program RD&E Plan (2018-2022) includes three key objectives: (1) Improving supply of Australian tea tree oil through investigation of higher-yielding varieties, agronomic advances, reduced input costs and better adoption of RD&E outputs; (2) Increasing demand through the development of innovative uses of Australian tea tree oil, particularly agricultural and cosmetic applications, and ensuring market access; and (3) Focusing on extension, industry sustainability and building human capital.
The Program has more than five projects underway addressing these objectives as well as the overarching priorities in the AgriFutures Australia Research and Innovation Strategic Plan (2022-2027).
