There are various carbon market opportunities available for Australian farmers. One of these is creation of a co-operative venture that provides for small area land managers. The requirements on land managers to generate carbon credits may present a barrier to market entry that could be overcome by collective marketing. Aside from the benefits of cooperation, land managers can potentially benefit from a co-operative venture by advancing knowledge and skills through accessing and sharing resources on carbon management.
To assist in this process, this project has produced a farmer guide to soil carbon management that supports cooperation. Through this project, AgriFutures Australia aims to provide supporting resources to allow individual farmers to make informed choices on carbon marketing and evaluate the benefits of carbon farming techniques.
