Over the last decade, there has been growing awareness of the potential that the emerging Native Food Industry has to contribute to the Australian economy and way of life. This is particularly the case for Indigenous Peoples and remote rural areas. In order for this potential to be met, however, a number of issues must first be addressed.
This Report will assist in this process by identifying the key legal and regulatory issues that arise along the native food chain, and by suggesting ways to make the laws on intellectual property and biodiscovery research work for the Australian Native Food Industry. As well as helping to inform policy debate in the area, the Report will also help AgriFutures Australia as it plans its research and development priorities into the future.
