This RIRDC report summarises efforts to construct the first genetic linkage map for the saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), and subsequent investigation into the presence and positioning of quantitative trait loci (QTL) for economically important traits in farmed saltwater crocodiles.
Linkage and QTL mapping exercises will contribute significantly to elucidation and characterisation of the crocodile genome, and represent and important first step towards the development of genetic improvement tolls for implementation in industry breeding programs.
