This project aimed to develop the use of new, MIR spectroscopic techniques for the simultaneous prediction or “measurement” of soil properties. Specifically, it concentrated on soil properties related to soil acidification such as pH buffer capacity, lime requirement, pH, carbon and clay content. It also aimed to demonstrate practical applications of the technology to decision support for acidification risk and lime requirement for use commercially or in extension. This technology is seen as having broad application to agriculture in situations where cheap and spatially dense soil characterisation would be useful.
