Summary

Australia’s animal vaccine system is fragmented, with limited coordination between government, research, pharmaceutical companies and industry. Creation of a Veterinary Vaccine Innovation Agenda seeks to address this fragmentation with a coordinated effort to unite stakeholders around a shared vision for sustainable, innovation veterinary vaccine access “Agenda”.
CSIRO has recently led a process with a range of stakeholders to identify barriers and opportunities for Australia’s veterinary vaccine landscape aiming to create a national Agenda.
The project aims to define vaccine investment needed to develop tangible, accessible products that deliver benefits for Australia’s animal industries. The project will review vaccines currently registered and used, identify relevant overseas vaccines and assess where investment in supply chain capacity can improve security and responsiveness. The project will map research and regulatory pathways from early-stage development through to commercial supply, identifying changes to streamline access and investment in system capability.
Stakeholder engagement will be undertaken enabling interaction between researchers, regulators and industry to test assumptions, identify priorities and form partnerships, creating opportunities to leverage system efforts so AgriFutures Australia does not need to act or invest alone.
