Summary

There is considerable potential for the Native Ag+Food sector to achieve commercial success and to deliver economic, social, cultural, environmental and health outcomes that will benefit Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians; commercial industry participants;regional and remote communities; and the Australian economy. To-date, the sector has struggled to capitalise on these opportunities and is perceived as being fragmented and lacking innovation capacity. Successful innovation requires the engagement of end-users to ensure that technology is developed to solve real problems, rather than pushing a solution that nobody wants. This project will engage growers and technology providers to co-develop a technology readiness plan that will assist in overcoming knowledge and capability gaps that have been identified as barriers to adoption. The pilot project will be undertaken with native fruit growers in northern NSW and north Queensland. Technologies have been identified in the areas of: drones; sensors (moisture &nutrients); data analytics; and harvesting (mechanical & robotics) and technology solution providers have been invited to participate in the project.A key outcome will be the development of targeted value propositions which will build confidence of growers to undertake technology trials and the development of trust and a shared understanding between growers and technology providers.
