Summary
This project aims to deliver a comprehensive review of domestic and international research on ginger (Zingiber officinale) pest and disease management. The review will thoroughly examine current pest and disease threats, management strategies, and their economic impact on the ginger industry, drawing comparisons between local and global practices. Additionally, it will highlight relevant findings for other tuber crops like turmeric and galangal.
The review process will involve identifying and analysing a wide range of research papers based on clear criteria, such as peer-reviewed, credible journals. This structured approach, guided by SMART criteria, will ensure that each step—from paper identification to analysis—is measurable, achievable, and aligned with industry priorities. The AgriFutures Ginger Advisory Panel will have key opportunities to provide feedback and shape the thematic direction, ensuring relevance to the Australian ginger industry’s needs.
The final deliverables will include a detailed report with actionable recommendations for future research, a DRM-free digital library of reviewed papers for easy access, and a biosecurity risk analysis assessing potential exotic threats. The project aims to support the AgriFutures Ginger Program’s goal of a premium, sustainable, and competitive ginger industry.
