Summary

This project will
consult with the whole industry, beekeepers, pollination dependent industries
and researchers to develop a National Varroa Destructor Research Strategy. It
will plan, organise and facilitate a workshop with these stakeholders to test
the identified gaps and develop a research strategy (whitepaper/prospectus) for
use by the industry to manage Varroa Destructor going forward.

The outcome of this
project is to provide AgriFutures Australia with a detailed list of research,
ranked by industry priority, including project ideas and resource requirements
to:

Engage
and collaborate with beekeepers to ensure that the strategy is supported by
industry and meets the needs of industry.

Support
RD&E planning and decision-making, through detailing Varroa research gaps
and needs of industry.

Signal
to stakeholders and government the research and resource requirements to ensure
the honey bee industry thrives with Varroa.

Ensure
good governance and transparency by understanding current research, research
requirements, and optimum use of limited research resources.
