AgriFutures Australia invites applications for the provision of the development of guidelines for market access and pathways to market for Australian emerging agricultural industries.
Submissions close 12 noon AEST Friday, 11 April 2025.
Background
One of the challenges for emerging industries is navigating potential market barriers and developing pathways to market.
The project aims to develop guidelines and a tool to help Australian rural industries identify and address these barriers and challenges. It will cover domestic and international regulatory standards, including food standards, tariffs, import permits and more.
Factors influencing market pathways, such as market knowledge, customer specifications, branding, supply chain processes and logistics will also be considered.
The project seeks to estimate time requirements for addressing market access and pathways to market to help prioritise resources.

Service requirements
The 2022-2027 AgriFutures Australia Research and Innovation Strategic Plan aims to grow the value and diversity of Australia’s rural economy by driving the growth of emerging high-potential rural industries. This project supports this priority by identifying market access barriers and developing strategies to overcome them.
The successful applicant will:
- Develop a report on market access barriers and pathways for six high-priority industries: Coffee, Hazelnuts, Industrial hemp, Insects, Sesame and Truffle.
- Conduct case studies, consult with industry associations and review relevant literature.
- Collaborate with other projects, develop a pathway to market flowchart and investigate the usefulness of AI tools in addressing market access requirements.
The project team must have experience in similar projects, supply chain mapping, agricultural trade, project management and AI technology. Deliverables include case studies, detailed reports and a fact sheet on AI tools. The project aims to provide a clear understanding of market access barriers and tools to prioritise to market activities.
