A person wearing a hat stands outside at sunrise with two dogs near a rural barn stacked with hay bales; long shadows are cast on the ground and mist hovers over the distant landscape.

The AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award is celebrating its 21st year of acknowledging and supporting the essential role women play in rural industries, businesses and communities.

Since its inception, the Rural Women’s Award has seen a great deal of progression. The RIRDC Rural Women’s Award was launched in 2000, and winners were selected from every state/territory for the first five years.

In 2006, the titles of National Winner and Runner Up were introduced to the RIRDC Rural Women’s Award at a national level, to provide further opportunities and increase the national platform for the women involved. In 2017, RIRDC was relocated from Canberra to Wagga Wagga, and re-branded to AgriFutures Australia, and so the AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award was launched.

All finalists are also invited to join our Alumni network of more than 300 accomplished women who’ve been acknowledged for their contribution to rural industries and rural and regional Australia in range of different specialisations.

To celebrate 21 years of the AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award, AgriFutures Australia have decided to develop a book showcasing the inspiring women who have participated in the Award since its inception. The aim of the book is to demonstrate the impactful voice of all our State/Territory Winners by giving them a platform to share their message and help unlock the potential of all rural women.

The theme of the book is “What advice would you give your 21 year old self”, a question that has been posed to all participants. It is a great opportunity for our Alumni to empower and inspire each other, and the next generation of women in ag.

The book will be available digitally in September 2020.
