AgriFutures Australia, the Graham Centre for Agricultural Innovation and Regional Development of Australia (RDA) Riverina NSW will fire up the BBQ on National Agriculture Day on Thursday, 21 November 2019.
National Agriculture Day is an initative by the National Farmers’ Federation and this year’s theme is ‘We are Australian Farmers’.
The agricultural community is invited to join AgriFutures Australia, the Graham Centre and RDA Riverina for lunch at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga to celebrate agriculture and the role of research and innovation in helping rural industries flourish and to better connect all Australians with agriculture and the people behind it.
AgriFutures Australia General Manager, Communications and Capacity Building Belinda Allitt said, “We are looking forward to celebrating National Agriculture Day. We’ve taken this year’s theme of ‘We are Australian Farmers’ with the message: city and country, we’re all motivated by the same values. We want to highlight the importance of research and innovation in the important quest to feed more people, caring for our environment and producing safe, affordable and nutritious foods.
“At AgriFutures, our core business is working with our rural industries such as rice, chicken meat and ginger to create research outcomes that allow the industries to prosper.”
Acting Director of the Graham Centre, Associate Professor Marta Hernandez-Jover said, “In the Riverina we are very aware of the important role agriculture plays in food production, employment and the economies of our rural communities. Research is an important part of that cycle, helping our rural industries to be more productive. 2019 has been another difficult season for many farmers and local communities, and we are pleased to provide this opportunity to come together to show our support and raise money for drought relief.”
