The main objectives of the project were to examine the requirements of major Australian users of agricultural statistics and to assess whether the reduced supply of small area agricultural statistics from ABS would result in users and their clients sustaining loss. The extent of potential loss was measured against the savings to the Commonwealth Government.

The project results reveal that users and the community at large will sustain substantial loss because of the decision to reduce the supply of accurate small area agricultural statistics. The evidence developed indicates that the savings to the Commonwealth Governments fall well short of the potential loss to users and the community.
