The aim of this project was to complete an energy strategy for the chicken meat industry to reduce energy and waste management costs and gain further value from waste streams through the use of waste to energy technologies (WTE).

Technically, viable solutions exist for the conversion of chicken meat industry by-products into energy; the challenge is to select a ‘fit for purpose’ technology then optimize the system to meet the economic drivers (e.g. minimize the payback period; maximize rate of return). This will be achieved by generating energy to offset the on-site power, steam and hot water costs whilst reducing waste management costs.
