The study results improve our understanding of the role of foreign owned firms in the Australian food and fibre supply chains. There are, however, quite serious data limitations about foreign investment and this is an area where we favour some improvement, particularly in view of the important role of foreign investment in the Australian food sector.. We do not, for example, have much understanding of the relationship between foreign investment and exports. Are they substitutes or complements or maybe there is no relationship at all.
