Consumers are increasingly looking for food solutions that are sustainable, transparent and authentic, and Australia’s native food industry is well-placed to deliver on these collective trends. The sector has the opportunity to build significant commercial success, but has yet to reach its full potential.
As a result, this report provides a detailed examination of the total value chain of Australia’s native food industry to identify opportunities for science and technology application, and barriers and gaps that may inhibit their adoption.
The project was executed through four sub-themes, each designed to explore the industry from a different perspective. Each sub-theme documented significant findings and several technology and capability gaps likely inhibiting commercial growth at an industry level were identified.
The report makes a series of recommendations to help unlock the industry’s potential, including increasing inclusion of Indigenous people, facilitating capability building initiatives, facilitating technology adoption initiatives, addressing investment barriers and communicating project findings and recommendations.
