This report examines the harvesting of trees on farms with an emphasis on operations conducted by the farmer. It reviews the international literature, reports a number of case studies and a survey of farmers’ harvesting intentions in Victoria, and looks at the likely impact of cost factors particularly important to smaller scale farm forest harvesting operations. The project uncovered a number of difficulties but demonstrated that there is a range of options available to strengthen links between small-scale growers and industry.
