This document reports on the findings and outcomes of the project DAV-144A: Improved seed production: “Towards 1.5 tonnes”. The project was initiated by industry and is a part of RIRDC’s Pasture Seeds Program (3.7).
The Improved seed production project was undertaken over the period of 1997 to 2000 and aimed to assist the sub clover seed industry in the development of improved management practices for seed crops. It specifically addressed herbage, nutrient and weed management for both irrigated and dryland sub clover seed production. Experiments were established using Trikkala and Riverina seed crops and measurements focussed on the seed yield components of these crops. Management practices relating to silage, grazing, mulching, herbicides and gypsum application are discussed as well as areas of further work.
