DownloadThis project summary focuses on the results of trials which looked at various amendments that could be added to poultry litter that would significantly reduce and event prevent the development of stable fly from the litter when used either in irrigation or non-irrigated agriculture.
The trials highlighted that sodium bisulphate and calcium cyanimide reduced stable fly number by as much at 95% and 99% respectively when added to raw broiler litter.
This Western Australian research is important because stringent restrictions on the use of poultry manure were imposed in the state though the Health (Poultry Manure) regulations 2001.
