This publication reports on how University of New England researchers developed a better understanding of farmers; perceptions of the hazards they face and how this understanding can be used to assist the promotion of occupational health and safety among farmers.
The project arose out of an ongoing need for research into alternative ways to promoting occupational health and safety among farmers because of the difficulty of reaching these high risk workplaces with traditional government policy instruments.
The research was conducted in three stages involving focus groups, individual interviews and techniques such as perceptual mapping and multiple regression to analyse data.
