This study provides an analysis of the impacts of new industries on agricultural landholders and their communities; documents best practice for co-existence; and provides a checklist for farmers needing to accommodate a new industry on their land. The terms of reference for the study were broadly pitched and defined new industries as including energy generation and transmission and environmental sectors such as biodiversity offsets and greenhouse gas sequestration. The report includes a case study of coal seam gas in the Queensland Surat Basin and open cut coal mining in the NSW Hunter Valley.
