For producers in Australian rural industries, a new potential revenue source has been identified. One such opportunity exists within and across supply chains – establishing value chain collaborations that use participants’ resources, expertise and networks.
However, supply chains and value chains are complex systems, often challenged by high transport costs and seasonal constraints. They are
also vulnerable to major changes in markets and weather. As a response, effective collaboration within and across value chains can help to overcome production risks. Parties who are interested in collaborating must answer some fundamental questions – why collaborate, who should I collaborate with, and what should we collaborate on?
This report offers an extensive understanding of how to establish and maintain successful collaborations in and across agricultural value chains – after an opportunity has been identified. It focuses on opportunities that enhance value and benefits for producers.
The report’s main features are a collaboration guide and associated checklist for AgriFutures’ levied and emerging industries, and more
broadly, the agriculture sector. These simple tools help stakeholders develop sustainable value chain collaborations. Importantly, the tools will also help them develop a collaboration agreement – a critical foundational document for the governance and operations of a collaboration.
