This report is about quantifying the extent of salt movement beneath native vegetation and cultivation. This salinity risk has resulted from tree clearing and cultivation – increasing soil water recharge rates and consequently mobilising salt. The report addresses:
1. The rate of drainage under existing agricultural systems
2. How much soluble salt is being leached
3. Will continuation of these current practices lead to increased deep drainage in the future?
Outputs from this project provide additional understanding and information to farmers, land managers, policy makers and researchers working in brigalow (Acacia harpophylla) landscapes of Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
