The thoroughbred breeding industry in Australia is responsible for generating more than $1.16 billion to the Australian economy and is the second largest in the world. The AgriFutures Thoroughbred Horses Program invests in high-impact research, development and extension (RD&E) that improves the profitability and sustainability of the Australian thoroughbred industry.
This snapshot report provides an overview of the Thoroughbred Horses Program and its RD&E investments that aim to improve breeding outcomes, reduce the incidence and impact of diseases and parasites, improve safety for industry participants and welfare for horses, promote education and training, industry planning, and reducing injuries in horses.
