Summary
This project will work with the fibre goat industry to conduct an extension and education campaign with the overall objective of growing the size, production, reputation and value of the Australian goat fibre industry. The project will build the capability of current industry participants and build awareness and a positive reputation among livestock producers that are currently not farming fibre goats. It will seek to establish resources and connections that provide individuals along the value chain with the necessary advice and support to allow them to participate in the industry. The project will be led by Dr Mark Ferguson who has a very strong background in the goat fibre industry as well as an excellent track record in conducting awareness and practice change campaigns within the livestock sector of Australia. He will be supported by the neXtgen Agri International team which has a wide geographical spread across Australia and a wide set of extension and adult education skills. The project will work closely with the industry and be guided by a project steering committee made up of industry and AgriFutures representatives. It is proposed that the project will develop written, video and audio content and run both on-farm and online training and awareness events. It is proposed that the project have a central hub where all resources are housed and industry participants can interact. This could become a legacy product for the industry.
