Australian Native Finger Lime RD&E Plan (2023-2028)
View in Knowledge HubThis desktop research and stakeholder consultation project will examine the Australian Native Finger Lime industry’s current and future barriers to overcome to enable sustainability, resilience, improved profitability, and continuing expansion of the industry. reviewing the past Australian Native food and botanical Industry RD&E plans that include Finger Limes and all associated research carried out across Australia and overseas. An industry situation analysis to understand the current position, potential value, and critical market dimension dynamics, including any major risks such as overseas competition. It includes consultation with current industry participants, to understand the next five years prioritization, including genetics, particularly yield, hardiness, fruit size through species breeding and selection and supply chain management from harvest to wholesale and retail customers. A prioritised review of industry development and export will be examined as the industry is currently experiencing issues that need to be addressed.
The project will create an industry prioritised RD&E plan that will enable the next stages of development necessary for the industry to expand. Investigating opportunities to increase production to meet market demand. Currently the farm gate ’19/’20 Gross Value Production is $3.1m. its current retail value is $8.7m (ANFAB University of Sydney Market study 2020). Our research will look at opportunities to increase GVP. A communications plan will provide messaging to enable further development of key partners in the industry in research, development, and extension activities along with attracting the investment and producer areas into the industry.
