Summary

Project proposes to refine and extend previous studies by assessing the impact of the industry, alongside its contribution.

By extending beyond contribution analysis our approach aims to provide the chicken meat industry with three additional tools with which to strengthen advocacy work with stakeholders. Namely, Impact analysis:

1. Allows for dynamic, or time-varying analysis. Where contribution analysis is a single year snapshot, our approach better communicates the steady and sustained expansion of Australian chicken meat.

2. Details connections throughout the economy, not just upstream as IO modelling does. Impact modelling is therefore better able to incorporate the unique attributions of the chicken meat industry, namely that it is highly vertically integrated in an Australian context and that it is a dominant player in household consumption and the food service industry.

3. Is best suited for what if type questions, underpinning more flexible and tangible stakeholder communication and advocacy. Impact analysis for example can ask:

  • What would be the impact on the economy of various future growth scenarios? For example, a continuation of the historical growth rate, versus an acceleration in growth?
