Summary
This project will provide an economic impact assessment of investment in the AgriFutures Thoroughbred Horses RD&E Program 2017-2022 and the AgriFutures Ginger Program 2017-2022.
The Thoroughbred Horses Program invests breeder levies, Racing Australia voluntary contributions, and Government matching payments and is guided by a Strategic RD&E Plan. The Plan is structured around five priorities:
- Enhanced welfare and safety of thoroughbred horses, those who work with them and the sustainability of the industry.
- Improved breeding outcomes, foal health and development.
- Reduced incidence and impact of diseases and parasites in horses.
- Industry training and Program communication and extension supported.
- The industry’s economic contribution and its market are understood, and additional RD&E resources secured.
The AgriFutures Ginger Program has three priorities:
- Drive on-farm productivity – disease management, innovative technology, and certified seed.
- Lift the demand for Australian ginger – brand and market research.
- Encourage industry engagement – extension, communication, leaders, and partners.
The economic impact assessments will use cost-benefit analysis and be completed in a way that is consistent with the Cross-RDC Impact Assessment Program.
