Summary

The establishment of value chain collaborations that leverage participants resources, expertise, and networks can contribute to achieving increased impact. When collaboration is successful it can lead to enhanced revenue streams, production risk mitigation and achieving economies of scale for the producer. However, awareness and knowledge of how value chain stakeholders establish and sustain collaborations is low, resulting in collaborations being limited to R, D & E. 

With the emergence of new industries across agriculture, forestry and fisheries coinciding with access to innovative enabling technologies (AI and AgTech) the opportunity exists for AgriFutures to identify and evaluate the potential for greater efficiencies, effectiveness and collaborations that can increase producer and value chain profitability and sustainability.

Successful collaboration requires trust and transparency in the relationship to enable sharing of information, resources, and risks, as well as the alignment of goals, expectations, incentives and sharing of benefits generated. 

Across value chains relationships can:

• enhance communication, collaboration, and coordination with customers and partners, and
• build responsiveness, flexibility, and adaptability to changing market conditions.

There are many models for collaboration – the goals and objectives drive decisions around the nature and modes of collaboration.

The deliverable will be a ‘fit for purpose’ collaboration model that enhances opportunities for AgriFutures’ portfolio of industries and other industries to establish sustainable collaborations along and across value chains. The primary focus being on how the producers capture a share of the value created by way of enhanced revenue streams, production risk mitigation and achieving economies of scale.
