Tech Tooling Soil and Plant Health

Certified Organic Biodynamic Western Australia Inc

  • Project code: PRO-016086

  • Project stage: Closed

  • Project start date: Monday, May 16, 2022

  • Project completion date: Friday, June 16, 2023

  • National Priority: AFI - AgriFood Innovation

Summary

The Project is targeted towards landholders interested in managing their soils for sustained production and maintenance of ecosystems integrity. The emergence of soil related emphasis i.e. soil carbon accumulation / prospective trading under ERF, Drought Management, Stewardship and net zero emissions attainment at the farm systems level is demanding greater awareness and verification of tracking. A low cost entry point is portable hand held technology suited for quick reference to support decision making. The project seeks to fulfil this demand and deliver basic awareness, training and networking opportunities for landholders to access and become familiar with the usage of such. The extension and adoption elements of the project is aligned with the R&D studies related to soil health, plant interactions and system approaches the COBWA Group is doing in collaboration with the WA Grower Group Alliance network and regional NRM Group Wheatbelt NR.

Objective Summary

Producers/ students will receive instruction and be competent in the use and integration of these portable low cost soil analysis technologies. This knowledge and confidence will aid better understanding of soil and plant agronomy management [soil and plant relationships to further soil health as a aid to production].A additional feature of the project is ongoing peer to peer knowledge exchange and access to the technology through the COBWA Groups desire to establish a regional resource hub, and a lending library, to promote further user confidence to adopt the discipline of soil and plant health monitoring.
