Late bloomer scientist uses Grant to grow vanilla
Vanilla is an emerging rural industry in Australia with huge potential. There is one major roadblock which is preventing the spice from really taking off.
Jade King wanted to grow something native and a little bit different on her Queensland-based plot of land. She put the question to her high school class and one student had the suggestion of growing finger limes. 300 trees later, Jade is a commercial finger lime grower.
Aided with the help of a Nuffield Scholarship, sponsored by the AgriFutures Australia Emerging Industries Program, Jade is on a mission to grow Australia’s finger lime industry and establish an industry body to expand on research knowledge and skills.
