AgriFutures Australia has been a major sponsor of the Northern Australia Food Futures Conference, with a particular focus showcasing industry partnerships in the north in Emerging Industries.

Last month we spoke with Laura Skipworth, Manager of Emerging Industries for AgriFutures Australia and Paul Burke, CEO of the Northern Territory Farmers Association; Mic Jakobi, the Operations Director for Northern Territory Hay Seed & Grain (NTHS&G); and Matt Hall, the Director of Plant Industries with the Northern Territory Government. Matt is also a member of the AgriFutures Australia Emerging Industries Advisory Panel.

Following the conference, we wanted to hear from young people about the opportunities now emerging in this region. In this conversation, we hear from two next gen leaders who are part of the AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship Program and who attended the Northern Australia Food Futures Conference.

Both Horizon Scholars are sponsored by Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia (CRCNA).

Rebekah Ash has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Honours) at University of Queensland and Paris Capell is studying a Bachelor of Science/Master of Science at Australian National University.

Rebekah and Paris provide their insights into the emerging opportunities in the north for young people, their hopes and dreams and why studying agriculture is a degree that can change the world.
