The AgriFutures™ Rice Program is providing an opportunity for those involved in rice industry research, development and extension (RD&E) to upskill their knowledge, broaden networks and improve their general understanding of global rice production systems.

The Program will provide travel bursaries of A$5,000 for up to five applicants to support attendance at the International Temperate Rice Conference in Brazil or the Rice Technical Working Group in the USA.

The International Temperate Rice Conference is a global initiative dedicated to bringing temperate rice growing countries together for the discussion, promotion and advancement of research, technology and innovation in the field. The three day conference is being held from 9-12 February 2020 in Pelotas, Brazil.

The Rice Technical Working Group meets at least twice-yearly to facilitate an exchange of information, cooperative planning, and periodic review of rice research and extension across the seven rice growing states of the USA. The conference reports on latest findings of a broad section of rice research. The conference is being held from 24-27 February 2020 in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Building capacity and increasing knowledge in rice specific RD&E  is supported by attending conferences, consortiums and educational forums. Attending these events enables benchmarking many of our key research areas (e.g. breeding, molecular, bioinformatics, grain quality, nutrition, crop protection, extension etc.) against the world’s best.

Successful applicants will be required to submit a three page report with key learnings to the AgriFutures™ Rice Program Advisory Panel upon return.

Please contact AgriFutures™ Rice Program Manager Lucinda Staley if you wish to discuss this opportunity further before applying.

How to apply

Applicants are required to complete the application form, provide two referees and attach their CV (no longer than three pages) via the online application system.

As part of the application process applicants will be required to outline relevant experience in the Australian rice industry and the anticipated benefit of attending the International Temperate Rice Conference or the Rice Technical Working Group.

Submissions close Wednesday, January 8 2020
