Driving research and innovation for rural prosperity

The AgriFutures Australia Annual Operational Plan 2026–27 outlines our planned research, development and extension (RD&E) investments, programs and priorities for the year ahead. It marks the final year of delivery under the AgriFutures Australia Research and Innovation Strategic Plan 2022–2027 and demonstrates how we are investing in innovation, leadership and industry growth to create lasting value for Australian agriculture.

In partnership with industry, government, researchers and stakeholders, we continue to invest in initiatives that strengthen productivity, sustainability, competitiveness and resilience across Australian rural industries.

At a glance: Our priorities in 2026–2027

Supporting our levied industries

We invest in research and innovation that responds to the needs of 13 levied industries, helping producers improve productivity, profitability, sustainability and industry stewardship while maximising the return on levy investments.

Growing emerging industries

We support high-potential emerging industries and enterprises, helping identify new products, markets and revenue streams that diversify Australia’s rural economy and create new opportunities for producers.

Developing workforce and leadership capability

Through initiatives such as the AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award, Horizon Scholarship Program and industry capacity-building programs, we are helping attract, develop and retain the people who will shape the future of Australian agriculture.

Addressing national challenges

We invest in cross-sector projects focused on issues such as workforce development, climate adaptation, food security, community trust, stewardship and digital transformation to help future-proof Australia’s rural industries.

Connecting Australia to global innovation

Through programs such as evokeAG. and growAG., we connect Australian agriculture with global innovation, investment, technology and research networks, helping accelerate adoption and commercialisation opportunities.

Delivering impact for Australian agriculture

AgriFutures Australia is committed to ensuring research delivers real-world outcomes. In 2026–27, we will focus on translating research into adoption, strengthening partnerships, supporting commercialisation pathways and helping industry turn innovation into practical results.
