A number of plant species introduced into Australia are important for their commercial value but also can become invaders. Divergent perspectives on these commercially valued invasive species have led to contention among interested parties, and a concerted effort is urgently needed to resolve these conflicts. A central step towards resolution is the development and application of assessment and policy frameworks that incorporate an understanding of the ecological, economic and social factors involved. This project had two aims: to identify approaches to a more thorough analysis of economic, environmental and social costs and benefits; and to explore effective policy, regulatory and management options for dealing with species that are both invasive and beneficial.
